WINTER PARK VETERINARY HOSPITAL

Our Services

General Services

  • PREVENTIVE CARE

Our commitment to your pet's health dictates a major focus on preventive care. Yearly comprehensive examinations are strongly encouraged for all pets to help identify problems before they become serious issues and costly to treat.

Comprehensive annual examinations include appropriate vaccinations, flea and parasite prevention and control. Your pet will also receive any necessary diagnostic tests, nutritional counseling, a complimentary dental exam, discussion of other problelm areas, and an individualized treatment plan, if needed. We emphasize client education and clients receive the most up to date information regarding the care of their pets.  Specialized educational kits are available for puppies, kittens, ferrets, rabbits, and new birds.

  • DROP-OFF SERVICE

When your schedule doesn't allow time for an appointment, call us in advance, to arrange a drop-off appointment. Tell us what you feel needs to be done, leave your phone number where you can be reached, and sign a permission form so we are able to examine, test and treat your pet in your absence. We open at 7:00 a.m. so you can drop-off before work. Call before picking up your pet to arrange a discharge time.

  • BEHAVIORAL SERVICES

Behavioral problems can be very difficult for both pet and owner. Disorders such as separation anxiety and obsessive behavior, can be greatly helped through individual treatment plans, which can include medications and behavior modification techniques.

  • BIRDS, FERRETS, RABBITS, SMALL MAMMALS & REPTILES

Veterinary medicine for exotic pets is growing as the popularity of these animals increase. With better public education in health, nutritional, and environmental management, all species have a greater chance for living longer and healthier lives. Our veterinarians possess exceptional experience and participate regularly in ongoing training in the care and treatments of exotics. In addition, we focus on preventive education for our clients and offer a variety of nutritional options specially formulated to promote the health of these special pets.

  • MICROCHIPPING

Microchips have helped reunite thousands of pets with their families.  A microchip is a device that is about the size of a grain of rice (see picture on the left) and is placed under the skin as permanent identification for your pet.  (No more lost collars or I.D. tags!)  The scanner is used to read your pet's I.D. number and we scan all strays with this scanner.  We offer the most widely used microchip products to increase the chances of a safe recovery.

  • BEHAVIORAL MEDICINE

Illness doesn't always have a physical cause. We employ trained animal behaviorists who help determine the cause of such disorders as separation anxiety, feather picking, and obsessive behavior, and then develop a treatment regimen for the client.

  • SPECIALISTS

Sometimes conditions arise that require veterinarians with specialized training for consultation or referral. We have an array of relationships with local specialists as well as with other specialists associated with various veterinary schools.

  • FULLY STOCKED PHARMACY

We stock a wide range of the best veterinary drugs in the animal healthcare field to help ensure the medicine your pet needs will be available when necessary. In addition, we work with area pharmacies for those unique situations requiring specialized medication.

  • DENTAL SERVICES

We offer complete dental services from client education to  annual or six month cleaning and polishing.  We also perform extractions, root canals and corrective orthodontics.  This service is as necessary as annual vaccinations in the prevention of disease and prolonging your pet's life.  Many of our exotic patients need dental care as well. Our rabbit patients benefit from preventative dental care to keep them healthy and happy.

  • EUTHANASIA SERVICES

Saying goodbye to a long-time friend is painful. We work with people to help ensure their pet's comfort and dignity. Services include taking care of the remains as directed by the client. We also have a memorial garden to memorialize departed pets.

Surgery

  • GENERAL SURGERY

For all our surgeries we follow strict sterile procedures, use the safest anesthetic gases, and provide meticulous monitoring, during and after surgery. We also require preanesthetic blood work on all patients. We provide an array of surgical procedures. When appropriate we refer patients to a surgical specialist.

  • LASER SURGERY

We have offered laser surgery for several years. We require the use of the laser for many procedures at Winter Park Veterinary Hospital . With other procedures our doctors encourage the use of the laser but the final decision is up to the client. We strongly prefer the laser because it reduces pain, helps in the prevention of infection, reduces blood loss, and decreases recovery time.

  • ENDOSCOPY

A sophisticated endocopic unit is utilized to enhance our diagnostic capabilities and to perform some surgeries. In the past,a liver biopsy would have been done surgically with a recovery period of close to a week. With our endoscope we are able to perform this same function and the patient is home much faster and the recovery period is greatly reduced.

  • PAIN MANAGEMENT

Veterinary patients feel pain and discomfort under the same circumstances as people do. We know that recognizing and alleviating pain in animals is the essence of good patient care helping to promote recovery. Thus, it is a standard part of our procedures, whenever necessary.

  • ULTRASOUND

This non-invasive, state-of-the-art technology uses sound waves to painlessly examine specific internal organs, primarily the heart and abdominal organs, aiding in developing a detailed, accurate diagnosis.  Ultrasound allows the doctors to see items that  may not be visible on an x-ray. In-house and also through a referral arrangement this procedure is available at Winter Park Veterinary Hospital.

  • HOSPITALIZATION

After a surgical or dental procedure, your pet will be provided with thorough monitoring while recovering from anesthesia.  Should your pet need to be hospitalized, we have highly qualified veterinary technicians and assistants to make sure your pet recieves the care necessary for a speedy recovery.

  • EMERGENCIES

Pets, with emergencies, are seen without delay. When possible, call us first, so that we can be better prepared to immediately address your pet's crisis.

  • After-Hour Emergencies

After-hour emergencies are treated throught the Central Florida Veterinary Emergency Clinic. Most of the local veterinarians have worked together to provide these state of the art facilities to provide the best possible care for their clients. There are 2 locations-North-195 Concord Drive, Casselberry, 407-644-4449 and South-2080 Principal Row, Orlando, 407-438-4449.

Whenever possible call before taking your pet to either location so the team can be ready to assist you in the best way possible.

Our clients with exotic animals will be seen by one of our doctors, if there is not a doctor at the Emergency Clinic who works with exotic animals. Please tell the receptionist you are a client of Winter Park Veterinary Hospital and they will page us. You can ask the staff to do this even if there is a doctor who handles exotics.
